U-verse TV

Channel 168/1168 Merit has no longer available on U-Verse. This might be because of the bankruptcy. It may or may not come back. As I understand it, my uverse tv remote is a radio frequency remote. My controller is in a tv cabinet. Remote only works with the door open. Thought a radio frequency remote would work thru it. Do I need a radio frequency booster of some sort? Thanks
