Live guide — selecting a currently-airing show opens program info instead of tuning to channel (Gemini Air)
Wanted to flag something in the live TV guide on the Gemini Air, and hoping a Community Specialist can pass it along.
Most of the time, when I highlight a show that's on right now and press SELECT, it tunes to the channel like you'd expect. But when the show doesn't line up with the usual 30-minute grid (movies, sports, anything that starts off the half hour or runs long), pressing SELECT pulls up the program info screen instead of playing the channel. I then have to take another step to actually start watching.
To reproduce:
1. Open the guide.
2. Find a show that's currently airing but doesn't fit the 30-minute grid.
3. Press SELECT.
What I'd expect: pressing SELECT on a show that's on right now just plays the channel.
What happens instead: it opens the info screen, and I have to do more to start watching.
I get that the info screen is useful for setting recordings and reminders, so I'm not saying it should go away. The issue is that it isn't obvious why selecting a live show plays the channel sometimes and opens a menu other times. It feels inconsistent.
This trips up people switching from regular cable, where selecting a channel in the guide always just plays it. It's been especially confusing for the older folks I've helped get set up, who expect SELECT to start the show.
If there's any way to have SELECT play the channel whenever the highlighted show is the one on right now, while keeping the info and record options available, that would make the guide a lot easier to use.
Happy to send a screen recording if it helps. Thanks for taking a look.

Thanks so much for flagging this Guide behavior on our Gemini Air, @mrobe83. We understand how that navigation jump can feel inconsistent—especially for folks moving from traditional cable, where the expectation is that selecting a channel immediately tunes it in.
This exact behavior was successfully reproduced on our end using those precise steps. The details are being passed along to our team so they can review the guide navigation and look into making this a more consistent experience for our users. We really appreciate you helping us make the interface better! Kenneth, DIRECTV Community Team
